Insulating board Many of us have, to varying degrees, come into contact with insulating boards in our daily lives—yet we often don’t know exactly what they are. Insulating boards help ensure our safety in certain specialized working environments. So why do they have such a wide range of applications? Let’s provide a brief introduction.
Property characteristics of insulating boards: Due to differences in their physical properties, the primary functions of insulating boards are closely related to the materials used in their manufacture. Common materials include PVC boards, epoxy resin boards, paper-faced boards, fabric-backed boards, plywood, and various resin-based boards. Consequently, insulating boards made from different materials exhibit distinct properties and performance characteristics.

Insulating boards exhibit high mechanical strength, excellent dielectric properties, high voltage withstand capability, and superior heat resistance. Let us now examine the performance of insulating boards: What are their key performance characteristics, and why are they so popular?
Insulation Board Standards and Applications
Insulating boards are widely used in a variety of applications, including insulating mats, washers, rings, and blankets. Among these products, insulating boards are extensively employed in substations, power plants, distribution rooms, laboratories, live-line work sites, and residential interior decoration.
In daily production, we must stock up in advance and cannot wait until the materials are needed. Once inside the company’s factory premises, how should insulating boards be stored? Since different environmental conditions can affect the performance of our insulating boards, what precautions should be taken during their storage?
1. Fire Prevention: Although some insulating boards are treated with flame-retardant additives, many others are not. When storing these boards, keep them away from sources of ignition and electrical power, and never store them together with flammable or explosive materials.
2. Fade resistance. Insulating boards have specific color characteristics due to their material properties; therefore, they should not be exposed to direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure can cause fading. Additionally, avoid cleaning with acidic or alkaline solutions.
3. Mold resistance: For insulating boards, mold resistance is crucial—especially when they are stored in particularly humid environments, such as in southern regions where factories are often located on the ground floor and experience dark, damp conditions throughout the year. Such conditions can easily lead to mold growth, which in turn can compromise product performance.
4. Pest control. In some factories, rats are present because food is prepared on-site. Rats and certain insects can bite, which may damage wooden flooring; this also requires attention.
Under the control of the insulating board, the insulating material exhibits non-conductive behavior—specifically, the surface arc on the insulating material does not conduct electricity. Specialized testing equipment is used to apply an electric field between two electrodes, which prolongs the duration of the conductive layer on the insulating material’s surface. The properties of the insulating board are evaluated in the same way: resistance remains consistent. In identical conductivity tests, the lower the conductivity, the better the resistivity.
